British technology companies are struggling to recruit and retain key members of staff, a research report has found.
According to Zurich’s Technology Hazard Warning Report, because of the low number of skilled graduates emerging from British Universities and schools, 57% of owner-managers in the mid-market tech sector are worried about losing key members of staff. This figure rises to 70% for owner-managers of companies in the £25 million to £100 million turnover bracket.
The authors of the report believe that UK tech companies are experiencing staffing problems because an increasing number of IT professionals are taking up job opportunities overseas, leading to a brain drain of British talent, while fewer students are choosing to study technology-based A-Levels and degrees, which means that the UK’s talent pool has shrunk for entry-level IT positions.
