iPhone apps date back to 19th century

According to an article on the BBC website, the equivalent of iPhone applications existed in the 19th century.

In the late 1880s, early users of the telephone could subscribe to services via their phone that included live opera, music from the theatre and news services.

In London, these services were provided by a company called Electrophone, which focused mainly on entertainment and religion, while similar services were available in Birmingham and Bournemouth.
