Social media could affect election result

At a recent roundtable debate on the use of the Internet in politics, a panel of experts concluded that social media sites could have an impact on the general election.

The panelists, who included Jag Singh, former adviser to US secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and Labour’s Derek Wyatt, discussed how use of the Internet and, in particular, social media have sped up the political process, and agreed that popular social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube would play a role in the upcoming election.
