Conducting return-to-work interviews with staff who have been away on short-term sick leave is seen as one of the most effective methods of managing and reducing the short-term staff absences that can be so costly to businesses, a survey has shown.
In the CIPD’s tenth national survey of absence management policy and practice, almost two-thirds of the surveyed companies cited return-to-work interviews as one of the most effective methods of managing short-term absenteeism; making it by far and away the most highly-rated approach.
83% of the surveyed companies said they conducted return-to-work interviews with short-term absentees, while 74% said they conducted interviews with long-term absentees.
